Subject: Cycling in naure and the wilderness
Chris Foster is one of the most interesting defenders of mountain bikers. He
is a Ph.D in electrical engineering so that means he is not stupid like most
of them are.

When I was in my 30's I hiked and camped full time for 10 years in natural
areas and wilderness in the Western US. What was I doing anyway? I was
actually being a pilgrim seeking my roots and my salvation. I am an atheist
and have no religion whatsoever. But I find my religion in nature. After
all, that is where we came from and that is what we shall return to.

When I was hiking I would often pull off the trail and simply worship
nature. Tears would come to my eyes as I contemplated the beauty of the
natural scene before me. I never encountered a cyclist in all those years. I
would encounter a few other hikers of course and a few rare horse parties.
But never any cyclists.

The English will have to go to northern Scotland to find any kind of
wilderness, but the Aussies will find it in their interior deserts. We
Americans still have plenty of it left too, but we need to protect it and
preserve it at all costs.

Mountain bikers are into fun and games. The natural world is nothing but a
playground for them. The fact is that there are hundreds of thousands of
miles of forestry and fire roads for them to do their thing. I do not ever
want them on a hiking trail.

Chris Foster is not stupid. He has told me that he is also a hiker and a
backpacker. Surely it is not asking too much that bikers confine their
activities to whatever roads already exist and to stay off of hiking trails.

Mike Vandeman of RBS is a purist and we need types like him. I consider him
the world's foremost expert on the damage that mountain bikers do to natural
areas and to the human spirit. We do not want to end up in a world where
there are no natural areas left for our spirit. Surely, Chris Foster can
understand this.

PS. I have decided to include the mountain cycling newsgroup in this post
since they are enthusiastic about the subject no matter how wrongheaded.

What's sick is trying to sweep the harm that mountain biking does
under the carpet. I'm actually doing mountain bikers a favor by
exposing the truth. It's YOU who are sick, trying to hide the truth.
That only causes more tragedies.

LOL! Funny how there are no sources for that supposed harm outside
of your own deranged papers, isn't it? The one independent source
you pretended did support you, turned out not to!

You would be thanked to confine your blithering obsession to newsgroups that
might possibly care. Humans are a part of the habitat, when you remove them and
the changes they make you have no natural habitat. It's like removing beavers
because they damage the habitat. They ARE the habitat. Same thing with humans.
We've been cultivating forests and plains for thousands of years. we've built
paths through the wilderness since the very beginning. The lands without our
work is not "natural."

Now quit acting like a tenured retard and get out in the woods and enjoy them
the way you're supposed to.

You don't go back far enough! Take Homo sapiens out of the equation and you
have got a more "natural" situation.

We humans are "unnatural" monsters pure and simple. We destroy whatever we
touch. If and when the earth is ever rid of us, it will be a much better
place for all of the other creatures.

There are damn few woods left on this earth. And the god damn mountain
bikers with their infernal machines are seeing to it that there is
absolutely nothing left.

Humans, as a species, are native to Africa. Period. Everywhere else,
we are a newcomer, and hence an invasive exotic, like zebra mussels or
purple loosestrife. But, hey, thanks for sharing your ignorance and
arrogance with us all.

Do you propose the usual extermination efforts to deal with this exotic species

I propose that humans should act like the guests that they are: with
restraint. No frivolous habitat destruction.

Yeah, loggers, diamond miners and big oil along with nuclear power
plants are as much a part of the natural habitat and do about as much
damage as beavers. However, "The lands without our work is not
natural" was most likely written by your undeniably more intelligent
mongoloid brother.

Mike isn't complaining about oil refineries and power plants. He is complaining
about people making single track trails through forests.

Do YOU really think those are the same thing?

Mountain bikers LOVE to change the subject -- to ANYTHING but their
selfish, destructive sport.

You people need to understand something, as long as you reply this
waste of human flesh's' posts, he won't go away. Just imagine, logging
onto this group some day and NOT seeing perverted insane rantings from
ed dolan the mental defective. That day would be greater than

I truly feel sorry for the good people of Minnesota, and especially
for every bicycle that has ever had the indignity of suffer the weight
of ed dolans fat hairy gassy ass. The only reason there is any sorrow
(perpetual or not) in Minnesota is due to the existence on this planet
of ed dolan. This world would be a much better place if he were to get
hit by a big Minnesota snow plow.

Through the years of lurking on this website, I have never seen a post
from this stinking pile of human fecal matter that even _resembles_
anything that could pass for lucid or well-reasoned technical dialog.
I generally ignore his posts, as he is so far beneath the level of
even the most naive cycling debutante that he isn't worth reading.
However, when I see a thread in response to some useless dolan sputum,
I feel as compelled to caution the legitimate users of this site to
refrain from entertaining ed dolan the insipid as a family values
republican does to snort crystal meth and hire male prostitutes.

Here is an example of one of my most ardent admirers, but please, it is
embarrassing to be so highly praised in front of so many strangers. Try to
restrain your enthusiasm. Yea, you and I both know how Great I am, but let
others find it out for themselves.

That happy state - the first one, at least - already exists, for some of

Then do not defend cretinous mountain bikers. They are only bent on one
thing - their own 'fun' and consequently destroying the natural scene and
wilderness for hikers and backpackers like us.

There are hundreds of thousands of miles of gravel and dirt roads in the US
for mountain bikers to do their thing. We do not want them on hiking trails.

Correction: I don't care if they are on hiking trails. I only care
about BIKES being on hiking trails. BIKES don't belong there.

But you claimed you are also a hiker and a backpacker. Those activities just
don't compute with cycling on hiking trails. Please consult with a head
shrink as there is something wrong with the way your brain works.
