Can anyone tell me when Dawes stopped building the Galaxy frames in England? I have a Super Galaxy frame in plum, 531st tubes, horizontal top tube, bought 4-5 years ago from Spa Cycles, England, and would like to know where it was built. Can anyone help? Richard

I'm fairly certain that Dawes stopped UK frame manufacture in the 1990's. Assembly of the components was possibly UK. Initially frames went to eastern Europe. No idea where they come from now. The non UK frames were made initially from the same (visually) round tube as the UK ones, so are hard to tell apart. More recent ones seem to have new tube sections; I saw one recently with a very oval/oblong lower frame element which looked decidedly unlike a Galaxy to my traditional eyes. (Nothing wrong with the bike, just the label on it seemed wrong for the frame shape). If you emailed Spa Cycles, they'd probably know and tell you. - Nigel -- Nigel Cliffe, Webmaster at http://www.2mm.org.uk/

It would come in a light-blue color - "huckleberry," let's call it, and the brochure would show a cartoon dog with a bowtie riding it.
