Subject: Derailleur for 34/46 chainrings

I currently have a 10 spd Campy triple crank and Campy 10spd
Ergoshifters that are from 2004. I'm planning on switching to a new
setup:
Sugino XD 600 triple crank only using middle & large chainrings -
34 and 46 rings,
Phil Wood 110.5 mm bottom bracket,
Shimano compatible rear wheel with a 11-34 MTB cassette,
Campy Record 10spd Ergoshifters: use left shifter for front
deraileur,
Shimano 9spd Bar-end shifter on right side for shifting rear
derailleur,
Front derailleur: ???
I used to have a Bike Friday in which I used a combination of the
Campy Ergoshifters and Bar End shifter for rear derailleur and I liked
the way it worked. I had first tried the a Jtek Shiftmate before going
with the bar-end shifter but found that it needed constant adjustment.
I'll be using a Shimano XT rear derailleur and a Dura-Ace bar-end
shifter for complete compatibility.
So the question is: which front derailleur should I use? The
chainrings will be 34 and 46.
I looked on the Harris Cyclery website and see that they have a IRD
Alpina-d front derailleur that is made for a large chainring of 48
teeth. Would this triple front derailleur be a good one to use?
Also a 113mm bottom bracket is suggested for use with the Sugino XD
600 triple crank but since I'm going to be using it as a double crank
would the 110.5mm bb that I already have be suitable?
I'm switching to this setup because I've had numerous problems with my
current setup. I've taken it to several bike shops and they couldn't
figure it out. I tried several things myself without success. I've put
up with it for the last few years but have grown tired of it and am
ditching it now.

Or just keep the small ring on there..it weighs little and doesn't
hurt anything.

Another question: If I used a longer spindle and set it up as a triple
crank but only used the top 2 chainrings(by setting limit screws on
FD) would there be any shifting problems doing this? This way if I
ever change my mind I could throw on a small chainring and use it as a
triple.

Agreed. My touring bike has a 48/36/24 XD triple, and a Campy Veloce
triple FD with 9s Veloce Ergos. It has the best front shifting of any
of my bikes.

Good point. I tried to use a 110mm for this crank and as a triple and
it was too long..used a 107mm UN-52.

I have a Sugino XD, and I mated it with a 103mm spindle to get the two
outer rings close to the middle. Actually, I had to grind off a little
of the crank to keep it from hitting the BB shell, but the chainline
is good. So you might want to consider using a shorter spindle than
110.5mm... like 105mm. My Dura Ace front derailleur seems to work
fine.

I suggest looking on e-bay for a sachs quarz triple front derailure. It is
designed for 46 max chainring. You'll need an adapter as this was only made
for a braze on. I think, although am not sure, that the Problem Solver
adapter has vertical adjustability, and you might need that if there are
water bottle bosses. I recall seeing something an adapter with vertical
adjustability at Toreli.
Also I have used other front derailures with both TA Zephyr doubles with a
large chainring of 46, and the Sugino XD triple. The TA double mated well
with ca. 2001 Shimano Ultegra double front, and I now run a 2000 Record
triple and it works OK. I have also used a 2000 Record double.
I believe that your seat tube angle may come into play.
