Subject: Eleven81 Handlebar stem
I recently bought a Fuji Pro carbon road bike and when I was fitted on
it, my bike guy thought the handlebar stem was a bit long. He said he
would order me a shorter one, which he did. The stem that was
originally on the bike was an Easton. I took my bike in to have the
new one put on and it was not an Easton. The only label on it says
"Eleven81". I did a search and could find nothing on "Eleven81.

I'm trying to find out if the Eleven81 stem is a good one. I think I
got took. I'm pretty new to road bikes but know that that the Easton
was a good stem. Am I making a bigger deal of this than I need to?
It just doesn't seem right. And why can't I find any info on
"Eleven81"?

Thanks for any comments.

Mike.

Chances are your Easton stem is not as nice as the Eleven81 stem.
There are only a handful of alloy stem manufacturers in the world and
90% of all stems come out of two of those. Easton has a lot more in
advertising costs and rider sponsorships to pay that does Eleven81,
therefore you typically pay for the name on that product more so than
you would for the same stem with a different logo. Eleven81 is a new
brand that is backed by a lifetime warranty and you should have no
problems with your stem. They have a website that looks like it is
under construction... www.eleven81.com. Peace!

In my opinion, in many ways you can think of a stem as almost a "non-
performance" item. In other words, if it holds your bars in the right
place, it's doing 90% of its job.

On the other hand, enjoying riding has a lot to do with aspects other
than performance. The stem is right there in front of you whenever you
look down. It's nicer to have a warm fuzzy feeling when you see the
stem. Warm fuzzy feelings can account for a lot of enjoyment.
