If you're a dumbass like me riding a barely maintained junker with nutted bb axle and you probably didn't torque down the nuts tight enough to begin with it's much easier pedaling one legged on a fixed. That is true on flat road with a fresh leg, but if your leg gets tired, you cannot scooter the bike (stand on one pedal and kick off with your free foot). And the one-leg down hill spin is a bitch (looks stupid, too). I had to do that when I broke a crank on a fixed gear five or so miles from home. This is where cell phones and families come in handy. -- Jay Beattie.

Heh, I came out of my left pedal when doing some intervals the other evening. I was being sloppy and half removed my shoe by hitting it on the chain stay, which subsequently popped me out of the pedal. Nobody saw it...never happened.
