I need some help identifying the type of headset on my road bike. Integrated, internal or conventional? I'm in a slight dilemna because if I wish to buy a better headset, namely something from Chris King, but I'm not sure what to get that'll be compatible with my bike. When do you think my bearings would need replacement. I have put about 5000 miles on it so far. B.D

It is a "low profile" 1 1/8" headset. It goes by a few other names and there are plenty of folks who aren't really aware of it. It uses the same headtube bore and crown race specs as a conventional 1 1/8 headset, and they are fully mechanically compatible. The only thing that differentiates it is the aesthetic created by the flared headtube and the cups shaped to match.
