Probably not a good idea, but what if I rode this hub... how long
might it last?!?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110135733718

Even if I had to rebuild the wheel onto a different hub, at least I
might get to try a Mavic MA-2 rim with DT 15 gauge double butted
spokes and brass nipples.

butbutbut [1], the Alex rim lacks the European Mystique and Heritage
[TM] of the Mavic rim!

good luck. this wheel's been abused by a radial-spoker seeking "tension
as high as the rim can bear" and screwing up. i wouldn't touch it. and
the ma2's not that great - it's comparatively heavy, prone to flat
spots, the eyelets rust, and the brakes have to wear before they reach
full efficacy. oh, and if you're seeking jobstian avoidance of
anodizing, you'll not succeed - that rim /is/ anodized.

spend your money on an open pro and it will be superior in all respects.

Hi.

You can buy a good Alex rim for what that seller is asking just for
shipping that wheel.

Cheers from Peter

Well
if you bought the rim and got it home, and you wanted to repair the spoke
hole. You could take it to a metal shop and have someone wire weld the hole
with aluminum, then take it home and carefully file it smooth, and then
drill a hole same diameter as the existing holes on the hub. To do the job
you would probably remove 2 or 3 spokes so that the welder can get the feed
gun centered over the hole. If I was doing it I would leave the elongated
bump where it is, only file the surface of the hub so you can center punch,
and then drill a hole.

Whatever force it took to elongate that spoke hole had to cause other
damage to the wheel. It appears that at one other spoke hole is somewhat
elongated too.

Unless you have a WHOLE lot of time on your hands, you can buy these
wheels on eBay in good condition for $40 to $60 USD.

Excuse me while I rearrange my sock drawer.

Chas.

Not long..I wouldn't get it because of the hub and because you have no
idea of the condition of the rim.
