Maybe I'm missing something, but why is this Ed Dolan guy allowed to post so much weird stuff? I come here to read the latest technical dialogue, not to spend time filtering through lots of weird Ed Dolan the Great Mumbo Jumbo. Is there a moderator that can take some kind of action? Frustrated, alan.

Sure, he's annoying, but how hard is it to not click on his posts? Just ignore him and he'll go away. Wait, we all ignore him and he never goes away! Oh well.

There is no moderator. Most newsgroups are unmoderated for a variety of reasons both philosophical and practical. Because Usenet is decentralized, moderate newsgroups are difficult to get working. They also usually die if the moderators stop doing their jobs, which happens more often than you'd think. That's essentially what killed rec.bicycles.tech. As others have said, if you can't ignore Ed the right solution is to set up a killfile to ignore him for you.

Yes, it's you. Read usenet via pretty any much newsreader (heck, even Outlook Express can do it), and you can filter out posts - "kill file" is the relevant term. It's very nice not seeing Ed's posts. cheers, clive
