The Simpson lever chain details are marvellous, the first time I've
really understood the concept.

It's hilarious, of course, basically the most complicated way possible
of increasing the gear ratio.

The first time I saw Lautrec's Simpson poster I assumed that, like
Sergio Aragones (who drew bicycles with a headset and fork at either
end) the artist had been fancifully inaccurate. I was amazed once I
understood it.
