Looks like McCartney won a stage using the old round seat tube Trek.
I guess only the first string riders rated the new and models.....

That is correct; Trek's contract was for "x" number of bikes for the team
for the TdF, and they built way beyond that, apparently at Bruyneel's
insistence. I think we can be reasonably certain that, if the team and
sponsorship were to continue, Trek would have diverted more production
towards team bikes.
