Subject: Question about fixed gear and Sturmey Archer

I'm planning to make a 3-speed, fixed gear hub by taking a 5-speed
Sturmey Archer S5 hub apart and using the modified internals.
My questions is, other than having a drum brake, is a Sturmey Archer
X-RD5 hub any different from an S5 ?

Great question and it sounds perfectly logical but apparently, from
what I've read, when you make a fixie you can only have reduction
gears.
So the 5-speed hub has +50.0 +26.6 1:1 -21.1 -33.3, therefore,
when 'fixed', it will be 1:1 -21.1 -33.3 (plus a neutral, if you
want it). So its 'kind of' a 4-speed but you only have 3 gears.
I'm just getting into this, so I have lots to learn. My only
experience has been with making the 2-speed Bendix hubs 'fixed'.
