I have a 110 bolt, pattern, triple,Sugino Crank with 48/36/26 rings.
I have other size rings, i.e. 28. I chose the ring sizes.

Shifters are Campy 10 Ergo.

Rear dearailleur is Ultegra 6500 long, Pulley bolts about 75 mm apart.
I plan on using Hubbub connection of rear derailleur to get it working
with Campy 10. I've had good success with this on MTB derailleurs,
i.e. XT and LX. I have a Campy long avaialable but would rather not
use it on this bike.

Bottom bracket is 113 mm BSC

Front derailleur is early XTR that was made to function with larger
rings.

Rear cassette Shimano 9 either 12/27 or 12/25

Chain either Sram 951 or Shimano 9. For informational purposes,
narrow 10 speed chains work wonderfully on 9sp systems but are co$tly.

Will the above combination work? Will I drag the bottom of the front
deraileur in something like a 26/21 combination? Will the rear
derailleur take up enough chain when the 26 ring and 12 cog get
crossed?

We have a tandem with 54-44-30 chainrings and 13-30 cassette that uses the
long arm 105 rear derailleur. The chain length is adjusted so that big-big
(54-30) just fits without breaking anything, and the four largest cogs on
the cassette (ie down to the 21) are usable with the 30 chainring without
the chain getting slack. So the Ultegra long arm RD and a chainring
difference of two less should be fine.

Very probably.

I had a similar setup - TA Zephyr 48 36 24, XTR M900 front derailleur,
Racing T then XTR mid cage rear derailleur, 12-27 cassette.

Unlikely.

Ugh. Yes, assuming you pay attention to using the correct length of chain.

One small problem you might have is that the chain may rub on the middle
ring when using the granny with the smaller sprockets. I had that problem
with the setup I described above. My solution was not to use the granny with
the smaller sprockets.

I briefly had a similar setup on one bike using 10 speed Veloce Ergos,
Shimano 105 long cage and Suntour ARx front derailleur.
The front was a 52-42-24 no pins Sakae triple, the rear 12-23 Shimano 9
speed and SRAM 950 chain. The setup worked OK, I only used the 24 a
couple of times as an emergency bail-out with the high end of the
cassette, I never tried it on the small end.
Down shifting to the 24 worked well, shifting back up was slow and
noisy, which I guess is to be expected with a jump of that size without
helper teeth or pins.
I used the hubbub routing for the RD which worked reasonable well.
I have since reverted to downtube shifters for the bike and removed the
granny gear, which was a temporary fix for riding in steeper terrain.

I moved the Ergos to another bike also using a Shimano 105 RD, but with
a Shiftmate and a compact double.
The Hubbub routing works fairly well, IMO the J-tek Shiftmate makes for
noticeably better shifting, but is less visually appealing.
