Subject: Sora Front Deraileur Problem on new bike
I just bought a Road bike with Sora Triple FD and RD and Sora
shifters.

Here is the problem. The Makers of the bike decided to use a one
and a quarter inch seat tube. The Sora Front deraileur bottoms out on
its inward swing and hits the seat tube.

So, the Chinese guys who made the bike decided to fix the problem by
putting in a wider bottom bracket. So the chainline is really a
messed up on this bike. The crank is way out there.

My question would be why doesn't the Sora Front Deraraleur work
properly on a 32mm seat tube?

Replace? Fix? Anybody throw out some suggestions.

Actually my wife will be Riding it and she has no clue anything is
wrong. Maybe I should just leave it the way it is.

It should. I have worked on bikes with Sora, a triple and a 31.8
seatube. Have you tried a proper BB spindle length?

Thanks Peter for your reply.
The bottom bracket supplied with this bike allows the FD to work. The
problem is that the chain line is so bad that it cause problems. For
example: back pedaling cause the chain on the rear cogs to jump to
the next smaller cog and then it locks up in a tangled mess.

The Bike shop that I bought the bike from (online) admitted that some
of these bike were sold with the wrong Bottom Bracket. They are
sending a shorter one to me.

Maybe the new bottom bracket wont be that much shorter to fix the
chainline and will still allow the FD to derail onto the Granny.

Heh,
If your wife is like mine and my daughter you are better off not saying
anything. Clueless is blissful silence.
