Hate to burden rbt with all of these questions on campag stuff, but I'm
going through a learning curve here. Now I'm looking at the campag champ
triple rd, which is much cheaper, and more available than the mirage. This
is for a triple 9sp shimano chain setup. Will it work with a mirage 9sp
shifter? They say increased ratio's does that mean you can use a 28
casette? What would a champ compare to in the shimano lineup?

Knuckles = pivot points, for both the parallelogram, and for the
mounting bolt and B-tension pivot. At least, that's what I've always
heard them called.

Race is the mid-range one, Comp the higher-end one.

Not sure what you mean by knuckles but I've been told Champ isn't
destined for the US anyway(it's 9s BTW)...just Race and Comp..which is
like Centaur and Veloce of 2006.

Good information, thanks - but *which* one is like Centaur and *which*

Plastic knuckes make it a Xenon, no?

I put a Centaur longest cage RD onto a cannondale tourer, with a
shimano 9s 11-34 and Campag 10s ERGO and shimano 9s chain and it
worked great..for the gents unsupported tour of Sweden.

I've run my tandem as a compact double with the same gearing that you
are using. It's been 3 years now.

It is compatible with any Campag index shifter ever made. This post
and pre 2000 stuff is so minor it doesn't really exist. We use 2006/7
RDers as replacement RDers for all Campag index systems we see,
including things like 1993 DT shifters and 1992/3/4 8s ERGO, the
Centaur RD, a 2006 model, worked great.

It will work with any Campagnolo ERGO shifter ever made w/o
modification. It is just a relabeled Mirage type RD. Longest cage and
you can use a 34t cogset. It essentially allows Campagnolo to reduce
SKUs by making a triple subgroup, that includes the longest cage RD,
where the shorter(mid) cage is still in Mirage, Veloce, Xenon groups.

Hi and thanks.

The c-c distance on my vintage Mieles hangers IS 28 mm. I might try a
32 teeth cogset from my mtb to see if it will work. I have a Mirage
long cage.

Cheers from Peter

Hi there. A 34 teeth cog! Great! How long is your frames derailleur
hanger centre to centre?

Thanks very much.

Shimano HG50 (Deore/Tiagra), although I swapped out the spacers for
those from a Campy-splined Miche cassette. It shifted OK stock, but it
was a little noisy at the far ends.

FWIW, that trick doesn't work with genuine Campy spacers, because
their cogs are thinner and spacers thicker. Miche uses the same flat
stock for both Shimano & Campy-splined cassettes, so their spacers are
just right for this conversion. I'd worn out a few cogs on the Miche
cassette last year, and have since switched that bike over to 10s
anyway, so it seemed like a good re-use of the spacers.

Hi there.

Campy does not make a 34 teeth cog. IIRC 29 teeth is their maxinum.

The Champ Triple RD was called the Xenon Long Cage last year. It's
compatible with all Campy shifters made after 2000. Theysay the
maximum cog is 28, but that's because that's the biggest 9-speed cog
they make. I have a Veloce long cage RD on my touring bike, and it's
working dandy with an 11-34 cassette.

Its Shimano analog would be the Sora.

Now are you running your Veloce champ rd with a shimano cassette, or a
campag cassette?
