Subject: stamped vs. machined chainrings
what differences (if any) are there between them, specifically the
stamped veloce chainrings and the machined centaur ones?

i like the way the machined ones look more than the stamped ones. but
since i already own a NOS veloce crankset, i'm not inclined to buy a
new centaur crankset just b/c of how the chainrings look. i want to
know if there's any functional difference b/w the two.

thanks.

Geeeezzzzz..semantics police.

yes, that's what i was thinking. any ideas on relative longevity of
stamped vs. machined?

Exactly like 105(pressed/thin) and Dura Ace (cut/thick).
Somewhat. Chainrings are good for several to many chains worth of wear.

We suggest the Centaur & up for riders who expect over 2000 annual
miles. A Veloce arm is a Centaur arm. Both shift identically well.

And, there is always the question of price v. longevity, aka, $ per
mile. e.g., if the machined ring last 50% longer, but costs twice as
much, the stamped ring is the way to go, IMO.

Machined last longer, are more expensive..when new, work the same(I
have a 39t Veloce on my C-Record crank right now)

NO functional difference

Wouldn't lasting longer be a functional difference?

So you want to play the semantics game. Depends on which parameters you
want to hold constant when you compare them. At the same state of wear,
they will perform the same. At the same age, the stamped ring will be more
worn, so will perform worse.
