I've got a MTB with Weinman Zac-19 rims and I'd like to fit them with GEAX
Street Runner 26 x 1.60 tyres.

1 The man at the bike shop said that 1.60 wide tyres would fit on my rims.
How do *I* know that?

2 I've read that the GEAX Street Runner should be inflated to 100PSI. Will
a standard car pump at the garage inflate to this pressure?

3 Will a standard bike tube (1.50-1.90) be okay, or should I get a special
tube?

thanks

Look at the side of the tire and look for the inflation rates..go
about 10 psi less than maximum.

Nope, that one will be fine.

walmart has a floor pump or did, for $10. pump by hand-the cradle is
fragile. this pump prolongs life.
wals' auto parts pump runs to 90-100lbs but no more than 100. ask. the
auto people are usually very considerate of an emergency pump.
you need to get a feel for rolling resistance and air pressure for
your intended use/road surface. some uses will ask for a higher
pressure some lower for max speed/min effort.
keep a eye on the brake pads' perdition.

Sheldon Brown has a page on tire sizing:

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

The Zac-19 rim is 19 mm in width (measuring on the inside of the walls):

www.bikepartsusa.com/product_info.asp?f_c=Rim&f_c2=26+inch&cp=3&p=01%2D124075

or

http://tinyurl.com/3xljte

If the Geax tire is a true 1.6" wide, then that's about 40mm.

If you look at the chart at the bottom of Sheldon's page, then you'll see
that 40mm is well within the recommended margin for a 19mm rim.

As for question 2, you should have no trouble getting 100 psi with a
gas-station hose. In fact, you should be careful not to over-inflate. By
the way, why would you want to inflate such a wide tire to 100 psi?
Something in the 70-80 psi range sounds more like it.

A standard tube should be fine.

If these questions are real, I don't really think you're smart enough to be
riding a bike alone.

#1, because he said so.
#2, depends on the pump.
#3, last I knew, 1.60 falls inside the range of 1.50-1.90, hope it still
does.

I can tell you're an American mountain biker as you're a smart arse
dickhead.

If anyone else has any constructive advice it would be appreciated.

thanks

Hmm, you must be Mr. Clever.

Sure.

Because they are 26" aka 559 rims and so are the tires. Width is not typically
an issue unless you're talking extremely wide or narrow, like 1.2 or 2.8.

>>> 2 I've read that the GEAX Street Runner should be inflated to 100PSI.

I don't believe that. Honestly. 100 psi is a hell of a lot for a tire more than
an inch wide unless you're racing in some way or other. Are you sure that 100psi
isn't the maximum.

>>> Will
>>> a standard car pump at the garage inflate to this pressure?

Depends on where they set the regulator. Here, it would be set to 90 if they're
following the usual occupational safety rules. Since you say arse instead of ass
you ain't from 'roun' here, so I'm not sure what you'll find.

>>> 3 Will a standard bike tube (1.50-1.90) be okay, or should I get a
>>> special tube?

Like the man said, 1.6 is between 1.5 and 1.9. A previous question was you
wanted to know how _you_ could know and this is how you could know the answer to
this one.

Consider a name change.
Don't ride your bike alone.

But seriously . . .

That tire width should work with a 19 mm rim. Sheldon Brown has a page that
shows the approximate range of tire sizes that will fit a particular rim
width. Please see "Width Considerations" near the bottom of this page:

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire_sizing.html

Most cyclists buy a floor pump with a gauge to inflate their road tires.
Most high pressure road tires require frequent filling. You might have
trouble getting 100 psi at some garages.

This tube will fit and work.

Good luck,

"American", "mountain biker", and the fact that some European thinks I'm a
"smart ass" & a "dickhead". It's quite a compliment coming from Europe.
